Valentine Extravaganza — The Orange Historic Society will have a Valentine’s Day theme for its gift shop sale, 10-3, The Academy, 605 Orange Center Road. Vintage jewelry and items from the 1940s and 1950s, with antiques and collectibles also available. Information: 203-795-6465.

Sweets at the Farmers Market — Chocolate-dipped strawberries and pies will be available at the Bethany Farmers Market this week for Valentine’s Day. Also cheeses, bread, greens, eggs, Fair Trade coffee and more. 10-3.

Fairfield University will be hosting Herman’s Hermits, starring Peter Noone, in a special Valentine’s Day concert at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

With over 60 million records sold and nearly two dozen top-20 hits, Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermits helped to define a musical generation.

A small sampling of their classics from the 1960s includes “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” “Mrs. Brown, You’ve got a Lovely Daughter,” “There’s a Kind of Hush,” “I’m into Something Good, “ “Silhouettes,” “Wonderful World,” “Just a Little Bit Better, “ “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat,” “A Must to Avoid,” and “Listen People.”

Named to dean’s list

Kaitlyn M. Smith, daughter of Charles and Karen Smith of Orange, and a 2008 graduate of Amity Regional High School, Woodbridge, was named to the fall 2011-12 dean’s list at Bucknell University.

 

Emily Feng, daughter of Xuwu Feng and Lijuan Shi of Bethany, a freshman at Duke University, was named to the fall semester arts & sciences dean’s list with distinction. She is a 2011 graduate of Amity High School.

Reiki workshop

Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., Derby offers a level I Reiki workshop, a body, mind, and spirit approach to medicine and healing Wednesday, March 7, 9-3, at the hospital. Cost, at $50, includes Reiki book; $25 of the cost will be refunded to those who sign up to become a Griffin Hospital volunteer and provide a minimum of 100 hours of Reiki at the hospital within one year of the workshop date. The Beth-Wood Baseball League registration period for the upcoming 2012 season started Monday, Jan. 30, and ends Friday, Feb. 17.

Registration can be done online through their new website, bethwoodbaseball.com. or in person.
