Almost three months to the day from when I experienced my first stroke, aptly named a brain attack, I underwent a surgical procedure that gave me a second chance at life.

Congregation B’nai Jacob’s Shabbat Lunch & Learn welcomes international health care consultant Ken Sperling on Saturday, Nov. 21. Following Shabbat services and a kiddush luncheon, Sperling will speak on “Health Care Reform: State of Play and What it Means to You.” He is the global health care practice leader with Hewitt Associate & Advisor to the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways & Means Committee.

Thanksgiving Luncheon and A Bingo

Turkey Luncheon and Turkey Bingo will be on Monday November 9th at our Center. Reservations please, due to the popularity of this luncheon, please reserve early. Bingo with prizes will start immediately following lunch around 1ish. 393-2100 ext. 124.

Community service awards

Six students from Amity Regional High School and two students from each of the middle schools recently received the Connecticut Association of Public Schools Superintendents’ award. The award was in recognition of “community service and service to others, academic prowess and leadership in the school community.”

Class of ‘79 Reunion — The Amity High Class of 1979 will be holding its 30th Reunion from 5 to 10 p.m. at BAR, 254 Crown Street, New Haven. The price is $30 per person. Just in time for Thanksgiving, the Woodbridge Town Library will be hosting a hands-on floral class entitled "Autumnal Gathering" on Tuesday, November 17th @ 7:00pm. Students will create a table runner design, full of all the offerings of the season. Dried and fresh materials embellished with berries, fruit and candles. A perfect centerpiece for your Thanksgiving gathering!

The Woodbridge Library is proud to offer a cooking class entitled "Vegan Cooking for the Holidays" on Monday, November 16th at 7:00pm. Chef Mary Lawrence will help solve the age-old problem of what to serve a vegetarian for Thanksgiving. This class will teach you how to celebrate the holiday season with a harvest feast of vegetables, fruits and baked goods that everyone will enjoy. Get ideas for appetizers, seasonal side dishes and delectable desserts that are all free of animal products, including eggs, dairy and, of course, turkey. Come learn how to prepare a Winter Vegetable Chowder with Spiced Toasted Pepitas that's perfect for a chilly evening or holiday celebration.
