The Orange Community Services Department now is accepting nominations for this year’s Living Treasure awards. Nomination forms are available in the Orange Community Services office, at Town Hall, and can be printed from the town’s Web site at orange-ct.gov

St. Patrick’s dinner — Orange Republican Town Committee will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at Biagetti’s Restaurant, 77 Campbell Ave., West Haven, Monday, March 15 at 6 p.m. The menu includes the traditional corned beef and cabbage meal. Cash bar is available. Tickets are $35.  Reservations are necessary. No tickets will be sold at the door. Visit www.orangectrepublicans.com and pay online or mail checks to Orange Republicans, P.O. Lion’s Auction — The Bethany Lions Club will host its 24th annual Goods & Services Auction at the Bethany Town Hall, Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. Goods, services and treasures of all types will be up for bid this year, and a preview of the items starts at 6:30 p.m. The Bethany/Woodbridge Leo’s Club will sell baked goods to help support their club. To make a tax-deductible donation to help with this year’s auction, call George McDonnell at 203-393-3164 for more details. The annual Goods & Services Auction is the Lions Club’s largest fund-raiser of the year. Donations and proceeds raised at the auction are used to support the Bethany Lions Club charities. Despite the continued unstable economy, Lake Compounce Theme Park in Bristol/Southington, CT will hire 1,200 full time seasonal employees, 200 of which will come from their upcoming job fair on March 26 and 27.

   

Crisco votes to extend Cobra health insurance coverage

State Senator Joseph J. Crisco Jr. (D-Woodbridge) voted for Emergency Certified legislation to bring Connecticut into compliance with federal law extending so-called COBRA health insurance for those who lose employer-sponsored coverage. Federal law makes available stimulus funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and provides a 65% subsidy to assistance-eligible residents.

Briana Laemel of Orange, a senior at Amity Regional High School, was awarded a scholarship to attend Berkeley College.

Law student tax challenge

Western New England College School of Law student Brendan Sponheimer of Orange was awarded first place overall at the American Bar Association Section of Taxation’s 2009 Law Student Tax Challenge in San Antonio, Texas.
