To the Editor:

I am Sandra Pierson and I am running for re-election on the Republican slate for the Town of Orange.

I have had the privilege of serving as tax collector for the last 10 years. I am state certified which requires taking and passing association-run classes, three years experience in a tax office and a final state exam.

I attend annual educational seminars as well as workshops throughout the year for continuing education credit. Courses cover everything from collection enforcement, office management and statutory/ legislative issues to keep current on changing state statutes and DMV regulations.

I have spent the month of October making personal visits to those commercial accounts having outstanding balances, after which, as in past years, they will be turned over to the town constables.

A consistently high collection rate is the key to fiscal stability for the town and remains the number one priority to help the town meet it’s financial obligation each year. I am pleased to report that we continue to have a collection rate in the upper 90% range.

I ask for your consideration based on my proven performance.
