Writer is 'disgusted' at personal reference

To the Editor:

I was disheartened and disgusted to hear Mr. Zeoli refer to our family’s first home in Orange as a “cracker box house in a ditch” during the First Selectman debate on Sunday, Oct. 23.

Friends, family and congregants who attended the debate were saddened and shocked by Mr. Zeoli’s degrading comment. I’m not surprised at his lack of professionalism, witnessing it personally on many occasions.

Rewind to the photo of Mr. Zeoli hanging himself by his own tie after defeating Mitch Goldblatt in the 2005 election. Even Governor Rell distanced herself from the Zeoli administration after the incident.

My husband, Kevin, moved out from under his parent’s roof to settle in Orange. He maintained the property both physically and financially on his own while working on two Master degrees and working full time to pay for his investment in Orange.

I moved into the “ditch” after our wedding in June of 2001. It was in the same “cracker box house” that we celebrated the birth of our first child, Caroline, whom I now have to explain to why Mr. Zeoli would use such words about a place that has so many good memories for us.

I wonder what the family, friends and neighbors of Lincoln Road are thinking right now, as well as the first time neighbors whom we want to make feel welcome in this town.
