Storm King Art Center

Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, N.Y., which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, shows its collection outdoors, on a carefully tended landscape.  Founded by Ralph E. Ogden and H. Acoustiguides are available with commentary by Mr. Stern. Among the many artists represented in the collection are Maya Lin, David Smith, George Ricky, Kenneth Snelson, Alexander Calder, and Andy Goldsworthy. The center is open from 10 to 5:30, Wednesday to Sunday (and holiday Mondays) through Nov. 5; 10 to 5, Nov. 6-15. On Saturdays in summer it’s open until 8. Visitors are encouraged to walk but may take the trams that circulate. Picnics are allowed (and there's a café), but no pets.

Admission is $12/adults, $10/seniors and college students, $8/students, free for those under 5. The anniversary year special exhibits are:  5 + 5: New Perspectives, featuring 12 near and recent works by 10 artists. Each artist helped plan the siting for his/her work.
