Summer Theatre of New Canaan

For its eighth season, Summer Theatre of New Canaan is moving in a new direction: no Shakespeare. The 2011 Summer Theatre Festival under STONC's open air tent in Waveny Park will feature You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown from June 18 to July 9, with shows on Thursday and Friday at 7:30; Saturday and Sunday at 2. The Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, Carousel, will run July 16 through Aug. 6, with shows at 7:45, Thursday through Saturday, and at 3 on Sunday. For young audiences, the season includes A Year with Frog and Toad and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. This summer, STONC is creating a musical theater pilot program for special needs children ages 8-17, who will work with professional actors to put on a show at the end of June.

Audience members may come early and picnic before performances; there will be both reserved and open field lawn seating, with theater and table seating available under the tent. Special events include a "Charlie Brown Family Ice Cream Bash" on June 18 and a "Carousel Clam-Bake Benefit" on Thursday, June 21, and Disney's Camp Rock by the new Junior Company on July 29.
