Every summer for the past 15 years, magic has happened in June and July as Shakespeare on the Sound stages one of the Bard’s great plays. Started at Rowayton's Pinkney Park, the summer productions have added shows in Greenwich in recent years. Audiences settle in on blankets or beach chairs for an evening of theater under the stars; occasionally, it rains. This year director Joanna Settle has selected a comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, which will be staged June 16-26 at Pinkney Park, and will then move on to performances at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park at 100 Arch Street in Greenwich from July 5 through July 10. Performances will begin at 7:30 and are nightly except Mondays. Music for the play, as for the past two productions (Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream) by Stew (who won a Tony Award for the book of the musical, Passing Strange) and his longtime collaborator, Heidi Rodewald.
Audiences are invited to arrive as early as 4 and picnic; there is no admission fee, but a donation of $20 ($10 for students and seniors) is suggested. A few reserved seats are available for $50 (call 203-299-1300, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.).
