Ridgefield Playhouse

Once the home of study halls and student performances, as well as town meetings, the auditorium that was designed by Cass Gilbert Jr. as part of the old Ridgefield High School took on a new life in 2000. Refurbished and redecorated, it became the Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts. With each year, it adds programming that regularly fills the auditorium to hear nationally known acts. The theater screens first-run movies and also has an active Film Society, which presents recent and classic films as well as salutes to directors. Several films have premiered at the Playhouse, where Ira Joe Fisher and Morton Dean host after-film discussions with the movie’s creators and/or stars.

Acts coming to the Playhouse this summer include comedian Steven Wright, co-founder of the Beach Boys and legendary songwriter, producer, arranger Brian Wilson, Tom Tom Club, guitarist Robin Trower, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Michael McDonald (for the Summer Fund-raising Gala), Blues Traveler, Rita Rudner, Uriah Heep, Nils Lofgren, Carbon Leaf, Gin Blossoms, Martin Short, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, and Jonny Lang.
