The Ridgefield Guild of Artists is a volunteer-run association whose members emphasize educational opportunities. The guild has an active schedule, with a membership from many area towns, and offers beginner to advanced classes, taught by well-known area artists. Ongoing portrait groups and live model sessions are also available. Guild members also may participate in the Satellite Gallery program, which places art for sale in businesses in Ridgefield. The youth classes cover a variety of media including cartooning and fiber arts. Summer Camp during July and August for ages 8 to 15 includes full and half-day sessions. The guild building is a turn-of-the-century barn on Halpin Lane.
Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 4. The current exhibit, running through June 3, is Continuum — Gender Identities, a group show by artists who engage the topic of what gender is and how it's expressed and seen. Opening June 11 is the 4th Annual Camera Works exhibit, a juried exhibition, judged by George Schaub, editorial director of Shutterbug Magazine and Petersen's Photographic Magazine. The Guild also hosts solo shows by artist members in its Upstairs Gallery and there’s a gift gallery of members’ work.
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists is on Halpin Lane off Prospect Ridge, a one-way street reached from Prospect Street, two blocks east of Main Street. 203-438-8863 or www.rgoa.org.
