One of the most beautiful examples of corporate largesse is the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Garden at PepsiCo world headquarters. Named for the former PepsiCo chairman, the perfectly manicured property of more than 160 acres is home not only to PepsiCo offices, but more than 40 sculptures by artists including Rodin, Moore, Calder and Giacometti. Maps for a free self-guided tour may be picked up at the information center from Memorial Day to Labor Day; stop first at the guard house to get a visitor’s pass. A pathway leads a circular route past all the pieces, although shortcuts may be taken. There are large — some gargantuan — pieces in open spaces, and smaller works in neat little gardens near the building. Possibly one of the prettiest is a girl and a dolphin in a fountain at the main entrance. Providing a backdrop for the sculpture are the gardens, beautiful in any season, with a variety of plantings and water features that entice photographers. There is a no-touch policy; nevertheless, this is a great place to take children.
The garden is open daily; admission is free. Those in wheelchairs will be able to make it along most of the route. Consider making it a day of art by visiting the nearby Neuberger Museum.
The Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Garden at PepsiCo Headquarters is at 700 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, N.Y. For additional information, call 914-253-2000.
