Maritime Aquarium

The Maritime Aquarium at 10 North Water Street in South Norwalk is where visitors may enjoy the antics of harbor seals and river otters, watch sharks or loggerhead turtles, or wonder at the beauty of jellyfish floating in their tanks. Exhibits are devoted to the creatures and habitats and history of Long Island Sound and its fishery, including one new this year: Go Fish! Long Island Sound & Beyond. Centerpiece of the exhibit is a new 30,000-gallon tank. The setting is along the bank of the Norwalk River, and Marine Life Study Cruises can extend visitors’ experiences out onto Long Island Sound. Africa: From Desert to the Sea is the current special exhibit, complemented by Meerkats, a family of six very active siblings. Also active, and fun to watch, are the harbor seal feedings, which take place daily at 11:45, 1:45, and 3:45. The IMAX theater has a multi-story screen with a huge sound system to match; theatrical films in IMAX format are included in the schedule.

The aquarium is open daily, 10 to 5. Admission is $12.95, adults, $11.95, seniors, and $9.75, children 2-12. With a Value Pass ($24.45, $19.45), visitors may include a daytime IMAX feature film and Happy Feet, a simulator ride.
