Kykuit (pronounced Kye-cut) is an art-filled estate that was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family and is now a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, maintained by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Visitors may see Nelson A. Rockefeller’s collection of 20th Century sculptures in the extensive gardens as well as the treasures within the mansion and its subterranean art galleries. Artists include Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, and Louise Nevelson. The coach barn features horse-drawn vehicles and classic automobiles from the family’s collection.
Visits to the estate begin from the Visitors Center at Philipsburg Manor on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; guests are driven from there to Kykuit for a tour. Kykuit is open daily except Tuesday from 9:30 to 4 on weekdays and 9:30 to 5 on weekends, from May 7 through Nov. 6. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitors Center, which opens at 9 a.m. or online at www.hudsonvalley.org. Tour prices range from $23 to $40 for adults; children's and seniors' tickets are $21 to $40. Children under 5 aren't permitted on the Grand Tour. Historic Hudson Valley is in charge of the visitation program.
