Dia:Beacon

Opened in spring 2003, Dia:Beacon lets the public see the world-renowned collection of contemporary art of the Dia Art Foundation in 240,000 square feet of gallery space, The Riggio Galleries. The pieces range from the early 1960s to the present, with each gallery devoted to a single artist and designed to accommodate the particular works displayed. Among the ongoing exhibits are Imi Knoebel: 24 Colors — for Blinky and Sol LeWitt: Drawing Series... The building, a former printing plant donated by International Paper in 1999, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The front section of the museum, with light from north-facing skylights, contains paintings and works on paper. The perimeter galleries hold the sculptural works and are flooded with natural light from the large factory windows. The rear gallery also features sculpture.

Spring/summer hours, are Thursday through Monday, 11 to 6; winter hours, mid-November to mid-April, are Friday through Monday, 11 to 4 (bookshop and café open at 10:30).  The museum is closed on major holidays. Admission is $10; $7 for students, seniors; free, children under 12.
