Bush-Holley House

The Bush-Holley Historic Site, headquarters of the Greenwich Historical Society, features the circa 1730 National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House, home of Connecticut’s first art colony. The William Hegarty Gallery presents historically and artistically significant exhibits that focus on the art and artists of the Cos Cob art colony, museum collections, and aspects of Greenwich history. The current special exhibition at the Bush-Holley Historic Site is Voices from the Civil War, which brings to life the stories of 10 people from Greenwich whose lives were impacted by the Civil War. Actual letters and diaries are used. Included among them are four soldiers who served on the front lines, one of whom was an African American and another who was a prisoner of war. Home-front observations come from an abolitionist, an opponent of the ar, a young widow and a teenaged girl, among others.

Exhibit hours are Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 4. Admission to the gallery and Bush-Holley House is by guided tour; $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors; free for those under six. Tours are offered at 1, 2 and 3 through Dec. 31; usually weekends only, during January through March.
