Spread out in close-to-natural habitats on 265 acres, the Bronx Zoo, owned by The Wildlife Conservation Society, appeals to all ages. There’s Tiger Mountain, a year-round space for the Siberian Tigers that call the Bronx home, and the very popular Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit, which offers up-close observations of these fascinating creatures. The sea lions are always popular in the renovated Astor Court, where there’s also a Peacock Garden.
Indoor exhibits include birds, reptiles, Jungle World, Madagascar, the World of Darkness, the Butterfly Garden, MouseHouse, and the Carter Giraffe Building. Hours through the end of October are 10 to 5 daily and to 5:30 on weekends and holidays. Basic admission is $16 for adults, $12 for children (3 to 12) and $14 for seniors. Wednesdays are pay-what-you-wish donation days. There are separate fees (from $2 to $5) for the Butterfly Garden, Children's Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest and rides on the Bug Carousel, Wild Asia Monorail, Skyfari and Zoo Shuttle.
A Total Experience pass is available April through October; one-year individual and family memberships are $83-$99 and $129-$159. All-day parking is $13.
The Bronx Zoo is off the Bronx River Parkway, in the Bronx, New York. For information and full directions call 718-367-1010. The Web site is www.bronxzoo.org.
