The Fairfield Museum and History Center offers modern galleries, a research library, reading room, museum shop and community spaces available for private events. Among the special events and programs offered during the year are a Memorial Day Community Picnic, a gala, fall festival, Family First Sundays, and the Holiday Express Train Show. The current special exhibit is IMAGES 2011: The 3rd Annual Fairfield Museum Photography Exhibition Featuring a Retrospective of Award-Winning Photojournalist Bill Eppridge, which will run through Aug. 28. Landscape of Change tells the story of Fairfield and its changing identity over 375 years, from the late period of Native American occupation to the mid-20th Century. Fairfield was the site f witchcraft trials in 1692 and burned by the British in 1779.
The museum is open Monday to Friday, 10 to 4, and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students 6-22 (with ID). The museum also maintains Ogden House, 1520 Bronson Road, which escaped the burning of Fairfield, and is open Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 through September.
The Fairfield Museum and History Center is at 370 Beach Road; the research library is currently on limited hours; advance notice for a visit is requested. For information, call 203-259-1598 or visit fairfieldhs.org.
