Florence Griswold Museum

A visit to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme in the summertime makes clear why artists at the turn of the 20th Century flocked to the Griswold home, to spend days painting, followed by evenings on the porch. The boarding house that "Miss Florence" Griswold operated into the 1930s is open to visitors and appears as it did in the days when the likes of Henry Ward Ranger and Childe Hassam spent time there. The museum opened in 1947 and in 2001 received the Hartford Steam Boiler and Inspection Company's collection.

In 2002, the 10,000-square-foot Krieble Gallery opened. The museum is open year round, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 to 5, and Sunday, 1 to 5. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for students, free for children 12 and younger. On view till June 26 is Inspiration & Impact: The Legacy of the Hartford Steam Boiler Collection. Opening July 1 is American Landscapes: Treasures from the Parrish Art Museum.
