Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art

Marc and Livia Strauss founded the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, N.Y., to develop and present new art as well as to increase understanding of contemporary art. The setting of this 12,000-square-foot exhibition space is the old Hudson River town of Peekskill, which has in recent years become a home to artists and a destination for art lovers. Long-term installations include Folkert de Jong's Mount Maslow, Thomas Hirschhorn's Laundrette, Grimanesa Amorós' Substancial, Daan Padmos' Time Sharing, Job Koelewign's WaterWorks and Serge Onnen's Planetariummonetarium. After the Fall, on view through July, features 18 emerging artists from East and Central Europe whose studies took place between the end of Communism and the rise of democracy in Latvia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Croatia.

The Hudson Valley Center is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 6 and by appointment. Tours are available on request. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniiors and educators (with ID), $2 for children. Volunteers are welcome and the arts center offers internships for college undergraduate and graduate students.
