Westport Country Playhouse is now in its ninth decade of producing a summer season and entering its third season under artistic director Mark Lamos, who was appointed to that position in February 2009. While performances are scheduled year round, the official theater season runs from April 26 to Nov. 5. Opening this year with Christopher Durang's comedy, Beyond Therapy, the Playhouse will next present the classic W. Someset Maugham comedy of manners, The Circle, June 7-25; Nicholas Martin will direct. Terrence McNally's comedy, Lips Together, Teeth Apart, will run from July 12 to 30, directed by Mr. Lamos. The mood will turn more serious Aug. 23-Sept. 10, with a production of Tennessee Williams' drama, Suddenly Last Summer, which will be directed by David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director. The final production of the 2011 season will be William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, or What You Will, which will also be directed by Mr. Lamos.
With each production, the Playhouse schedules special events to enrich theatergoers' experience. The Woodward Internship Prorgram provides opportunities for young theater professionals.
The Westport Country Playhouse is at 25 Powers Court, off the Post Road (Route 1). Box office is 203-227-4177 or westportplayhouse.org.
