Maureen Kozlark has won election to fill out the last six months of the selectmen’s term she was appointed to in December.
In a special election Wednesday Ms. Kozlark had 1,843 votes (53%) to 1,403 (41%) for Marty Heiser and 194 (6%) for Tony Di Preta.
“Very pleased and proud that I won election to the Board of Selectmen through this town vote,” she said after tonight’s selectmen’s meeting. “I thank all my supporters who worked so hard. And I will work very hard in my continued capacity as a selectperson, and I hope to win in November.”

Now the voters get their say.
Ridgefield’s more than 16,000 registered voters are all eligible to cast ballots today in a special election for a Board of Selectmen seat.
Republicans Marty Heiser and Maureen Kozlark and Independent Party candidate Tony Di Preta are all vying for the seat longtime Selectwoman Joan Plock resigned from last November for health reasons.
Voting will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in an unusual Wednesday election. Voters cast ballots at the three regular polling stations:
• District I at East Ridge Middle School;
• District II at Scotts Ridge Middle School;
• District III at Yanity Gym.

A hard-working, non-partisan, pro-school Republican, Maureen Kozlark deserves to continue her work on the Board of Selectmen. Voters should support her in next Wednesday’s special election.
Both Ms. Kozlark, appointed by the selectmen in December, and Marty Heiser, the choice of the Republican Town Committee and a 118-to-100 majority at January’s Republican caucus, are strong candidates — smart, experienced, knowledgeable on the issues. What differs is the viewpoint they represent, the ideological company they keep.
A 14-year finance board veteran, Mr. Heiser embraces the Republican Town Committee outlook: good schools, of course, but restraining the growth of school spending to hold down taxes is the top priority.
