Earlier this year the Greenwich Transition Committee collaborated with early childhood experts Julie Coakley of Cooperative Education Services and Sue Vivian of the Education Connection to set in motion the delivery of professional learning information sessions, entitled Making Connections for Greenwich’s Kindergartners. The sessions were attended by more than 30 Greenwich public school kindergarten teachers and members of elementary school administration and represented elementary schools across the district.

In Greenwich’s preschools and early child care centers, the growing use of state standards as outlined in the CT Preschool Curriculum and Assessment Frameworks, has been supported by the Greenwich Board of Education and the Greenwich School Readiness Council and has provided a substantial opportunity for enhanced collaboration with the Greenwich Public Schools and receiving kindergarten teachers, according to a press release.

Seventh grade Middle School Latin students were reunited with their fourth grade “Little Brothers” as they presented three PowerPoint research projects that tied into the younger boys’ unit on architecture in their art class. By sketching and building 12-foot-long reproductions of classical temples, the boys studied the differences among main architectural orders from ancient times.

“Life is a joke that’s just begun” wrote the British lyricist W.S. Gilbert of the Gilbert and Sullivan duo. On Saturday, June 25, at 8:30 p.m., Caramoor Center for Music will kick off its 66th Caramoor International Music Festival with an Opening Night presentation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, one of the legendary duo’s most beloved operettas. HMS Pinafore, which opens the festival in celebration of the 15th season of the distinguished Bel Canto at Caramoor series will be played by The Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

Remember the story of Noah, slaving in the hot sun with his kids to build that immense ark and then herding all those smelly animals aboard while his neighbors stood around gawking and guffawing and jeering and cracking obscene jokes? Well, maybe not the last part.

I thought of Noah and his kinsmen during the recent hoopla about the world coming to an end. There was a lot of jeering that day, too.

Fortunately for the rest of us, these cyber-age Jonahs got it wrong, although they insist the date has been delayed to Oct. 21 (because of a scheduling conflict on God’s part, I suspect), when a massive fireball will incinerate the planet.

This is about the third time that Harold Camping, the self-proclaimed California prophet, has made a doomsday prediction, which, when you consider the odds, is as good as AccuWeather’s success rate.
