Red Cross seeks receptionists

The Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross is in immediate need of volunteer receptionists to work one or more days a week at the front desk. Shifts in need of coverage are Tuesday to Thursday afternoons 1 to 5. Volunteer receptionists greet and refer visitors, provide customer service to clients and organizational support to staff, answer and direct incoming calls, provide information about health and safety classes, blood drives and other programs, take RSVPs for events and meetings, and perform general administrative tasks as needed.

Couple donates $2M to museum

The Greenwich Land Trust (GLT) hosted its third annual Nature Preserve Clean Up earlier this month where more than 70 volunteers of all ages helped the land trust with stewardship projects on the Starr Wildflower Meadow.

On May 17 from 5-8 p.m. artist Mary Newcomb will enjoy a reception in honor of her art which will be displayed at the Gallery at the Greenwich Tavern from May 6th to June 29. Surviving yet another birthday

When that horrifying day arrived known as my “birthday,” I was delighted to receive two cards from the Toyota dealer — from the service department and the salesman — along with one from my dentist and one from my insurance agent.

Thank God for the service sector. They’re like family. They’re better than family because they don’t fight, and I get something in return for my money.

I’ve reached the point in life when I’d prefer to sleep through my birthday and not have anyone remind me I’m a year older. Needless to say, I hate those felicitous words “HAPPY birthday.”

We all go through a stage when we abhor birthdays, but eventually we grow wiser with age and become grateful we’re going to our birthday party instead of our funeral.
