The editorial staff of The Darien Times invites readers and others to drop by its weekly editorial meeting every Thursday morning, 10 to 11, at the Sugar Bowl. Each week the staff critiques the paper and discusses stories for the following week. Visitors may simply listen or voice their opinion.

Page one stories, and the top sports stories from the current week’s issue of The Darien Times are available on the paper’s home page and remain accessible at no charge for several weeks. The entire content of the newspaper is added to the archive within about two weeks after publication.

Both WNLK (1350 AM) and WEFX (95.9 FM) in Norwalk and KOOL (96.7FM) in Stamford cover some Darien news, sports, weather and personalities.
Channel 12 on Cablevision (849-1321) is based in Norwalk and covers Darien news.
Darien News Channel TV 79 is the town’s government access channel provided by Cablevision. Two areas of town hall — Room 206 and the auditorium — have been wired for the live telecast of certain meetings. Meetings — Board of Selectmen, Board of Education, Board of Finance, Planning & Zoning, etc. — are also aired on a tape delay. The station is run by an all-volunteer crew and receives no taxpayer money. The station plans to produce documentaries and reports on town evens and will consider airing independently produced programs that concern Darien and are politically neutral. There is a guideline book for submissions. The station is actively recruiting volunteers. Blue Wave TV Educational Access Channel 78 is based at Darien High School. The station airs programming related to the Darien public schools. Most of it is high school-related since the video production courses are there, but the station is happy to air concerts and assemblies from the middle and elementary schools as well. A video bulletin board carries high school events and announcements.
Fairfield County Weekly (203-382-9666/fairfieldweekly.com) covers activities, arts and news in greater Norwalk and is free.
Connecticut Magazine (860-524-1020/connecticutmag.com) is a monthly that covers the state.
Connecticut Parent (203-483-1700/ctparent.com), published monthly, is available at libraries, schools, YMCA’s, child care centers, hospitals, doctors’ offices, and other family-oriented retail locations.
Fairfield County Business Journal (914-694-3600/fairfieldcountybusiness.com), published weekly, contains business news of the county.
New Canaan-Darien Magazine (203-222-0600/ncdmag.com) is a bimonthly magazine with news and features of the area.
The Coastal Fairfield County Convention and Visitors Bureau (800-866-7925/coastalct.com) in Norwalk publishes a seasonal guide to events in its 13-town area that spans Greenwich to Stratford. The guide is published in spring, summer, fall and winter.
WSHU-FM in Fairfield (91.1 mHz) is a National Public Radio station that programs primarily classical music. Connecticut Public Radio’s WEDW-FM in Stamford (88.5 mHz) also carries NPR and classical formats, audible in parts of town, while its higher-powered but more distant sister station, WNPR-FM in Meriden (90.5 mHz) can also be heard here with an outdoor antenna.
WKCR-FM (89.9 mHz) at Columbia University in New York City is a jazz station.
WPKN-FM in Bridgeport (89.5 mHz) carries a mix that includes much jazz.
WMNR-FM (88.1 mHz) carries mostly classical music, but Saturdays from 5 till midnight programs music from the 20s through the early 50s, including big band and swing. WQXR-FM (96.3 mHz) offers classical music, including opera.
You may call the Connecticut Weather Center at 837-8552. The federal government broadcasts weather 24 hours on VHF frequencies 162.55, 162.475 and 162.4 mHz. Radios to pick them up are sold at Radio Shack. You may also tune in the Weather Channel on cable or the Internet. Also on the Internet is weather reports from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration at noaa.gov.
