For the second year, the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, based in Darien, is organizing a coat drive on Sunday, Nov. 22, to benefit three charities in lower Fairfield County: Person-to-Person of Darien, Pacific House of Stamford and Norwalk Emergency Shelter.

Festivities, the in-house caterer for the Darien Community Association, is sponsoring a first annual “Great American Bake Sale” with a contribution to Share our Strength campaign to end childhood hunger in the U.S.

Orders for everything from hors d’oeuvres to soups and salads to free range turkey and desserts can be ordered. Deadline for placing an order is Friday, Nov. 20. Orders over $500 will receive free delivery within Fairfield County.

Blue Flames heat up the Darien Arts Center

The Blue Flames Steel Band will be performing for the benefit of the Darien Arts Center's Cabaret Theatre for one-night only on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 8, in the Darien Arts Center Weatherstone Studio.

The Blue Flames Steel Band are four “panists” who all live in Darien and Rowayton. Darienite Bob Wells plays tenor pan and arranges the group’s music. Jim Linville of Rowayton plays the “double second” pans. Barbara Wells of Darien plays on three cello pans, and Vicky Linville of Rowayton “grounds” sounds with four tenor-bass pans.
