Carver Center works to build lifetime achievers

The George Washington Carver Community Center in Norwalk has been “building lifetime achievers,” as its motto reads, for over 70 years. Despite its seven decades of existence and service, the lack of knowledge in the lower Fairfield county area is a fact that continues to shock those involved with the center — and motivates them to change it.

“One of the things that I am continued to be surprised at is how little awareness there is for the Carver Center,” said Darienite Mike Gregorich, a finance board member at the center. “I view it as right in our backyard. It seems to me everyone in the area should be involved given the impact it has.”

Darien Sports

This one time Darien high swimmer has brought back to the school state title banners most every year she’s coached the Wave.

Now she’s recognized as an “National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) 2010 National Coach of the Year Finalist.”

Who might that be?

Marj Trifone, decade long coach of the Blue Wave girls swimming and diving team, who was notified of her accolade just this week according to her family.
