Mahoney's standout career complete on tragic note

The Blue Wave girls soccer team will need to do without its top player this season, and offensive spark of the past several, Kelly Mahoney (No. 17), who ripped her ACL against Ridgefield on Friday.

In states but struggling to gain an FCIACs playoffs spot, Darien has been hit hard by injury, also playing without defender Alex Budd for weeks, and having Cat Thomas hurt her ankle and need to be carried from the field at Trumbull in a 2-0 win last night.

That puts three senior captains out of commission.

Darien (8-5-1) must at least tie a second-seed FCIAC team in Westhill (11-1-2) on senior day tomorrow to make the conference post-season.
