FCIAC Playoffs: Top seed, 15-0 Wave field hockey hosts No. 8 Staples

Darien High's field hockey team, winning every game in the regular season, starting and finishing with Staples, picks back up with the Westporters in the opening round of the FCIAC tournament it hosts at 3 p.m. today.

The No. 1 Wave (15-0) beat the No. 8 Wreckers 6-0 away on Tuesday and will look for its third win over the same squad this season as Darien begins the drive for a third straight conference title — something few teams at DHS have ever done, and no field hockey team has ever made happen in blue and white.

The Wave's defense, with Maggie Annecchino (No. 6, with ball) and Alex Bair (No. 11, left) above, has seen a mere four goals reach the back of the DHS cage this season, shutting out 12.
