Darien finished eighth at the CIAC Class MM girls cross country championships on a muddy course at Wickham Park in Manchester on Saturday.
The Wave scored 198 points, first was Guilford with 62.
Darien was led by Megan Keane in 19th place in 21:47.Next for DHS was Amanda Dobler finishing 27th in 22:14, 46th was Ellen Bauer in 23:19, 47th Katie Farren in 23:20, 59th Grace Loh in 23:47, 65th Kelly Brophy in 24:02, 77th Sarah Smith 24:40.
Timed splits crossing the road: Dobler 8:45, Keane 8:46, Farren 9:14, Bauer 9:15,. Brophy 9:15, Loh 9:26, Smith 9:50
“Illnesses were too widespread to put up a good team score,” said Darien coach Steve Norris. “Hannah Lyons missed her only meet of the season with flu.”
Lyons has been the exception.
“Amanda Dobler had not recovered from flu earlier in the week,” said Norris. “And Katie Farren (had) stomach problems.”
And among those who did traverse the germs?
“Megan Keane, Ellen Bauer and Grace Loh ran well,” Norris said.
Darien finished it’s league season at 11-6.
