CANDIDATE COMMENTARY: New direction while retaining Easton values

Elections set the course for the future, and Easton’s first selectman’s race is no different

I made the important decision to run for this office because the core values held dear by Easton residents are at a “tipping point,” and it is now time for a real change.

If we continue the current trend, our real estate tax increases will exceed inflation on an annualized basis; our valued school system will show more signs of strain from inadequate funding; student performance will falter; and our home values will continue to decline more than comparable towns.

In its District Reference Group (DRG), Easton has the highest equalized mill rate, the second lowest K-8 spending per pupil, and the second highest decline in real estate values since 2004.

I do not find that formula acceptable. Do you?

I am committed to:

(1) Retaining Easton’s rural integrity; (2) Managing the town’s finances to limit tax increases and align spending with our core values; (3) Funding appropriately to maintain an excellent school system; (4) Strengthening home property values, and (5) Providing seniors with the ability to maintain and enjoy their life in Easton.

I bring 30 years in fiscal planning and management (with JD and CFP degrees) to this task, as well as a firm commitment to doing what’s right for Easton.

The difference between my opponent and me is clear. If you like the direction Easton is heading in, vote for my opponent. If you don’t like it, vote for me.
