Lynn Babington, who has held numerous leadership positions at Northeastern University in Boston and has a background in serving vulnerable populations, has been named the new dean of Fairfield University's School of Nursing.

Babington, who will begin this summer, fills a position previously held by Jeanne M. Novotny, who stepped down last year. Shewill joined a school experiencing decade-long expansion in both enrollment and in nationwide reputation, known for its recognized faculty, state-of-the-art resources, and graduate programs for nursing leaders of the future.

In making the announcement, Fairfield President Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, said the depth of the candidate pool was a wonderful indicator of the high regard many have for Fairfield's School of Nursing. "We look forward to Dr. Babington leading the School of Nursing, and building on the success that was achieved under the leadership of Dr. Jeanne Novotny."

Fourth graders at North Stratfield School will be immersed in the life and times of Abraham Lincoln for two weeks this year as they sing and play their way through history.

It's all about combining music, games and history, according to Patricia Kassay, the North Stratfield School teacher who applied for a grant from the Fairfield Foundation for Education to fund the project. Along with co-teacher Trisha McDonald, the pair have planned a two-week program where students will learn and participate in traditional mid 19th- century games including Peg Top, Whirli-Gig, Rolling Hoop, Quoits, Pick-Up Sticks, and Jacob's Ladder, and will learn to play the tin penny whistle in music class.

From Feb. 6 through Feb. 17, fourth grade students will attend four music classes and four physical education classes. Each class will begin with a brief history lesson on Abraham Lincoln and his place in American history, and then the music and games will begin.

The Fairfield University Bookstore, in addition to selling school apparel, books and coffee, now offers an open forum to discuss ethics-related issues with community leaders and town officials.

Fairfield University's Program in Applied Ethics, along with the Fairfield Rotary Club, has been looking to take advantage of the school's downtown presence ever since the bookstore on Post Road opened last November.

David Schmidt, director of the ethics program and a local Rotarian, was a driving force behind "breakfast ethics," a series of meetings, free and open to the public, that invite speakers to discuss ethical issues relevant to the town.
