Downtown merchants seek parking fix

Carolyn C. Xifaras shelled out $300 for a parking permit in the downtown area, yet on some mornings she finds herself circling buildings along side streets in search of a free designated parking spot near Pink Cloud Beading Co., her business on Donnelly Walk.

When she can’t find a space, Xifaras parks her car in one of the two-hour spaces and displays her permit in hopes the special police officers won’t give her a ticket.

“They still ticket me,” Xifaras said angrily. “It’s obscene.”

Fairfield Sports

Records tell you one thing, but the sport of volleyball makes a team prove its worth every match.

“It is such a mental sport,” Fairfield Ludlowe girls volleyball coach Meghan Skelton said. “It takes all 15 players on our squad to get us where we want to be. We are fortunate to have a deep bench.”

The second-seeded Falcons defeated Ridgefield, 3-1, with a berth in the Class LL state semifinals on the line at home on Saturday night.

Ludlowe will play top-seeded Southington (20-1) for the state title on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Berlin High.
