An elderly woman was watching TV in the living room of her Melville Avenue home Saturday afternoon, when a burglar walked into the room, unplugged the television set, unhooked the cable and walked out.
The next morning, on Nov. 1, a health care aide noticed the backdoor was open and found the woman, 95, sleeping in her bed. She woke her up and told her they had to get out of there, police said. The health aide called the woman’s grandson, who called police at around 10:04 a.m.
Police said the backdoor had been pried open and splintered wood was on the ground.
The victim did not know about the backdoor, but remembered the man taking her TV while she sat in her chair three feet away.
The woman described the suspect as being in his 30s, with no facial, adding “he didn’t dress well,” according to police. She also told officers she didn’t feel scared because he was nice to her.
The TV was a $400 Emerson flatscreen.
