I visited the Florence Griswold museum in Old Lyme recently, and while perusing the very fine exhibit "Call of the Coast", I came upon 2 paintings that looked very familiar. Sure enough, when I read the mounted info tags, I found they had belonged to Harrison and Jean Horblit, and I remembered seeing them, and other paintings by the artist De Hirsch Margules, in their home. I got to thinking of Jean, and wondered what had happened to her since she left town a few years ago. Sad to say, I found she had died this summer at the age of 98.
Obituary of Jean Horblit I don't recall seeing an obit in the Press, so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. If there were none, then one should be published. She was an amazing woman; I have many fine memories of working for her and her husband many years ago when I was perhaps 12 or 13 years old. Once a week I'd help with the gardening work on what was, and still is, the finest home in Ridgefield (the wonderful stone house on Oreneca Road).
She belonged to another, more genteel time, and I cherish the time I spent in her company.
Just thought others might like to know.
