We used to walk there from Cedar Lane...go around the Whipples pond, cut through the swamp behind it, grab some cat tails for a battle up the hill and into the open fields of long grass...grab a few crab apples from a tree up there...sneak along the stone wall along 35...find something moving at approximately 25 mph to test our aim with the crab apples...cut onto Sycamore lane after a high speed sprint...and go get Roast Beef sandwiches, chips, and Grape Sodas from "Casamores" with money we got from caddying at Silver Spring, raking peoples leaves, shoveling snow, or any other job we could get at that age...then head back home the same way, often muddier and covered with burrs, and those little black prickers that got stuck on everything and you had to pick them off one at a time. Then depending on the season it was time for a neighborhood wiffle ball game in our back yard, football across the street in another neighbors front yard, or sledding down another neighbors front yard hill. ...much better than hanging out in the CVS parking lot today! |
