Welcome to the Ridgefield Forum 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Welcome to The Ridgefield Press Forum. Please read this article before you post.

The forum is a place where Ridgefielders and others interested in the town can discuss current issues and post news and notices.

Anyone can read the posts, but posting requires registration.

You may post under a "handle" (pseudonym) or under your real name. We would prefer you use your real name -- we really believe an opinion backed up by a name holds far more weight than one posted anonymously. However, we understand there may be reasons why some prefer to be anonymous.

The forum is divided these broad topics of interest:
-- Town Issues: The operation of the town government, including taxes, spending, zoning, public safety, highways, assessments, politics, etc.
-- School Issues: The operation of the schools, including programs, staffing, costs, courses, busing, and buildings.
-- Sports & Recreation: Local sports and facilities discussions (please, no Yankees-Red Sox!).
-- Ridgefield Life: Discussion of the good and the not-so-good aspects of living in Ridgefield, with the aim of making community a better place. Don't just whine: Suggest!
-- Dining Out: Your thoughts on what to order -- and what not to order -- at Ridgefield's many restaurants. Compliment good food and good service and critique bad.
-- Announcements: Post news of any event open to all Ridgefield residents.
-- Other: Topics that don't fall into any of the above categories

We hope town government and business leaders will read posts, participate in discussions, respond to questions, correct misinformation, and find the forum a convenient way to disseminate information.

Rules of conduct are simple: Be nice. You can discuss, debate, argue but you may not attack one another or others. We encourage civility here.

For instance, don't say, "You're an idiot." That's called "flaming," which we won't allow. You could say instead "IMO (in my opinion) you are incorrect because ...."

Also please don't call public figures idiots, jerks, thieves, or worse. Please be respectful of their office or position.

There are internationally accepted rules of Internet conduct, cutely called 'netiquette'. See
http://www.bogartsdaddy.com/bouvier/lovers/netiquette.htm

The forum is moderated, but our aim is not to censor posts but to keep the threads on topic and in good taste. If posts veer off topic, posters may be asked to start a new thread (conversation).

The moderator may declare a topic "dead." This means the topic is getting nowhere, has become useless and boring, and it's time to move on.

Our thanks to Jan Rifkinson for his help and inspiration in getting this forum underway.

Tip for those posting long pieces 2 Years, 3 Months ago
If you are planning to post a long message or a long response, or if you may be interrupted while writing a message, it would be best to compose your piece in a plain-text word processor, and then copy/paste the text into the message form.
The forum resets itself (your cookie expires) after 60 minutes of inactivity, and a couple of participants have lost long messages that they were composing.
The forum software does not know you are composing a message; it takes an action like "save" for it to see that you are still logged on.
