Singer, dancer and actress Jessica Gondwe will join the Rev. Robert H. Naylor, senior minister, and the Chancel Choir for a sermon in song, titled The Spirit in the Spirituals, on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Second Congregational Church, at 139 E. Putnam Ave.
Ms. Gondwe, who will offer insight into interpretive dance, started dancing as soon as she learned to walk and began formal dance training at 8 years old. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in modern dance from the University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, Pa., and has studied and trained in dance and classical voice with many professionals. She also has performed in musicals at the Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster, Pa., and in a Civil War musical, Battlecry, written by playwright and church member Granville Burgess. Ms. Gondwe currently is preparing for a 2010 solo performance of arias, spirituals and Broadway music with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra.
A visitors Sunday Coffee Hour, beginning at 11:30 a.m., will follow the service.
