Donna Spellman, Family Centers director of self-sufficiency services, and Rebecca Lippel, manager of Family Centers’ Friendly Connections program, recently received scholarships to obtain a Certificate in Aging from the Boston University School of Social Work’s Institute of Geriatric Social Work (IGSW).
IGSW’s Certificate in Aging program helps human service professionals learn to appropriately and effectively assist older adults and their families.
The $500 scholarships, provided by the Alliance for Children and Families, cover all expenses toward the completion of a Certificate in Aging. Over the next year, Ms. Spellman and Ms. Lippel will participate in five self-paced, interactive online courses that provide the core foundation of knowledge and skills in the growing field of aging.
This training will enhance Family Centers’ senior outreach services offered through its Friendly Connections program and community partnerships with Charter Oaks Communities and New Neighborhoods, Inc. in Stamford.
