Vega jazz trio to perform for Sunday series

On Feb. 21, the Sunday Afternoons Live concert series at First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich will present the Donald Vega Jazz Trio.

Donald Vega, a native of Nicaragua, came to Los Angeles at 15 years old. He recently completed his studies at The Juilliard School. His style and virtuosity on piano, along with his composing and arranging, mark him as a unique and exciting presence in the world of jazz. His sound has been said to resonate with a touch of Oscar Peterson’s versatility and Bill Evans’ elegant lyricism. Mr. Vega will appear with bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Marion Felder. The program will include jazz standards as well as some of Mr. Vega’s original compositions.

The Sunday Afternoons Live concert series is held in the auditorium of The First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Ave., opposite Binney Park in Old Greenwich. The audience is seated at candlelit tables. Hot chocolate, tea and cookies are served from 3:30 p.m. and the performances begin at 4. There is no admission charge, but a $15 donation is requested from those who are able to contribute.
