Community makes a covenant with soldiers

Amid pomp and circumstance provided by members of the West Point Pipe and Drum team, the Greenwich Board of Selectmen, and representatives of the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Navy came together today in the Cole Auditorium of Greenwich Library during a special ceremony to sign a ‘Covenant of Care’ supporting military families in Greenwich, Stamford and Norwalk. ‘Greenwich is one of many towns joining a nationwide effort to support our uniformed fathers and mothers, sons and daughters who have placed themselves in peril, and their families at risk to protect our country and have come home with special needs,’ said Bruce Winningham, an organizer of the event. The Military Community Covenant signed in Greenwich aims to create a volunteer force that organizes and catalogues groups of volunteer skills. These volunteers will then work alone or with professionals at all levels of need — from assisting young, overwhelmed military spouses to service members who return with special needs.
