Two businesses charged with selling tobacco to minors

Two businesses in Greenwich were issued infractions Tueseday after failing state inspections by Greenwich Police and the State Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Inspections revealed they were selling tobacco products to minors.

 

The Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program inspections focused on 21 businesses in town. Under the direction and supervision of state investigators, an under age teens entered the businesses and attempted to purchase tobacco products. Among those inspected, two sold to the minors including Michael Cafagno, 23, of Port Chester, an employee of The Tobacconist of Greenwich at 8 Havemeyer Place, and Linda Chan, 54, of New York, N.Y., an employee of the Oriental Market at 214 Sound Beach Ave.

Those in compliance included Bruce Park Grill, The Sunoco at 518 East Putnam Ave., Rinaldi’s Country Deli, A&P Fresh at 129 East Putnam Ave., Riverside Convenience Mart, the Mobil Mart at 1129 East Putnam Ave., Porricelli’s Food Mart, Byram Smoke Shop, Two Door Restaurant, Bellmore Wine and liquor, Greenwich Cigar Store, Sundown Saloon, the Mobil at 623 West Putnam Ave., Pemberwick X-Change, the Stop and Shop at 11 Glen Ridge Road, Connecticut Wine and Liquor, the Exxon/Mobil on the Merritt Parkway and IGA Supermarket at 1059 North Street.
