Michael Lehrer knows why people love golf.
“There’s such skill involved,” Mr. Lehrer said. “There’s a challenge in hitting that perfect shot. It’s so elusive. You can keep searching forever for that perfect swing. That’s what draws you in and keeps you coming back to it.”
And Mr. Lehrer isn’t just talking about his own passion for the game. As president of Home Green Advantage, he’s worked with homeowners all over Connecticut and New York to bring the challenge and fun of the golf course right to their homes. Since he started his business in 1996, Mr. Lehrer has installed 375 personal putting greens, tee boxes, sand traps and even three-hole mini courses for golfers both casual and religious.

Architect Aris Crist calls it a new form of recycling.
When he bought the vintage 1952 one-story, three-bedroom colonial that sat on an eigth of an acre on Glen Road in central Greenwich, rather than tear it down and fill 10 dumpsters with scrap, he kept two-thirds of what was there and added upward. He ended up filling only one dumpster and made a green architectural statement. A little re-envisioning and readapting created a new home.

When you spend more than a year of your life designing something and then twice that amount of time seeing it created from the ground up, it’s always nice to be rewarded for it. But what Greenwich architect Joeb Moore received was better than even the most sincere gratitude. His work in creating a new Greenwich home has been given the prestigious 2009 Honor Award from the New England Region of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

How has the economy affected the rental market in Greenwich?
“Severely,” according to Prudential’s Roberta Jurik, who has been handling rentals here for 14 years. “I spend half my day explaining to landlords that things are just not the same as they have been.”
