Gators 14 vs. BANC 6
The Gators trailed 6-0 early in its contest with the BANC Raiders, however they were able to come away with the 14-6 victory during week six action from the Greenwich Youth Football League. The Raiders struck first, when Parker Grayson broke away from the pack after a block from Charlie Hanson and ran 40 yards for a touchdown to give BANC a 6-0 lead.
The Gators were able to tie the game in the second quarter, when running back Anthony Ferraro shed tacklers and went 38 yards for a touchdown. Michael McTiernan sealed his man to make the Gator touchdown possible. The Gator PAT attempt failed.
The Gators went ahead in the third quarter, when Nic Smoller was able to convert two fourth downs. Cassius Johnson ran well behind the blocking of Spencer Baxter and Tripp Smith to move the ball downfield. Luke Bienstock then gave a diving effort into in the end zone from the 4-yard-line and Marco Pastore converted the 2-point conversion to make the score 14-6.
Both teams had solid defense the rest of the way.
The Raider defense stiffened after that, with Alex Rocco, Jack Barter, Michael Tang and Ian Edwards making tackles and keeping it close. BANC’s offense drove downfield in the fourth quarter with some great passes from quarterback James Huber to Nicholas Daetwiler (three catches on the day), but was stopped at the Gator 11-yard-line with time running out in the fourth quarter. James Baccile and Matt Morganti also played well on both sides of the ball for the Raiders.
The Gator defensive line did an excellent job containing the Raiders, with Liam Quigley and Alex Tucker leading the effort. The Gators secondary also was solid, stopping the BANC passing attack.
