The Greenwich High School boys and girls cross-country teams traveled up to Manchester’s Wickham Park for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class LL championship Saturday.
The girls team finished the course 18th overall with 479 points, while the boys team finished 20th overall with 566 points.Leading the way for the girls team was junior Camille Matonis, who finished 39th overall with a time of 21:46. The second-fastest Greenwich runner was sophomore Alicia King, who crossed the finish line 96th overall with a time of 23:44.
Senior Kristina Byrne finished 112th overall with a time of 25:33 and three finishers later was fellow Greenwich senior Yuki Tamura (25:44).
Less than 15 seconds later, Greenwich junior Jordana Cepelewicz finished in 117th place. Rounding out the Greenwich finishers was senior Nicole Carroll, who took 123rd overall with a time of 26:53.
On the boys side, the Cardinals were led by senior William Newberry, who took 77th overall with a time of 18:43. Fellow senior Ben Wilbanks placed 117th overall with a time of 20:02. Finishing 124th and 125th respectively was sophomore Thomas Newberry and senior Alex Huebner. Newberry ended his race with a time of 20:29 and Huebner finished one second later.
Finishing as the fifth fastest Cardinal was sophomore Warren Bein, who took 130th overall with a time of 20:58. Finishing the scoring for Big Red was sophomore Michael Grund, who took 137th overall with a time of 21:55.
