The Shelton High offense was firing on all cylinders when the Gaelettes defeated Newtown High, 5-0, in a second round Class LL girls soccer game on Nov. 11.

Five players notched goals in the victory, as 11th-seeded Newtown had little to no answer for the dynamic offense.

Saturday was anything but the ideal Senior Night for the Shelton High football team.

The game against Daniel Hand of Madison, postponed Friday due to bad weather, ended up being played in the rain anyway on Saturday evening with just a few hundred people in attendance at Finn Stadium.

But the Gael gridders made it a night to remember for the seniors, scoring 24 straight points in the second half to break open a 7-7 half-time tie en route to a 31-13 victory over the Tigers.

After a 1-3 start to the season that all but eliminated it from postseason contention, the Shelton High football team has circled the wagons in impressive fashion.

Powered by a balanced attack that piled up 450 yards of total offense, the Gaels notched their fourth consecutive blowout victory, belting Amity High, 46-23, at Sim Field in a Southern Connecticut Conference Division I West matchup on Friday night in Woodbridge.

The Shelton High boys soccer team dropped a 1-0 heart breaker to Amity on Oct. 26 in a contest that that eliminated it from the SCC tournament.

The Gaels didn’t let that affect them, as they closed out the regular season on a strong note shutting out Lyman Hall 3-0 on Oct. 28 and West Haven by a 4-0 margin on Oct. 30.

Shelton (11-5) will now have a full week to prepare for the upcoming Class LL state tournament.

Shelton High’s offense was a given heading into coach Jeff Roy’s SCC interdivisional football game with Hillhouse High at Bowen Field in New Haven on Oct. 30.

The Gaels were averaging 33 points per game, and had won two in a row before taking on the Academics, who were clicking off points at a 28-per-game clip entering the contest between 3-3 teams.

This left it up to the rival defenses to provide a springboard to future success — and it was Shelton’s that came up big in the Gaels’ 42-8 victory.

No one would have blamed the Shelton girls soccer team if it had a drop off this season after graduating 10 players from last year’s 13-4-1 team that ended up in the second round of the state tournament.

That scenario wasn’t good enough for the nine returning seniors, who so far this season have left their own mark as Shelton tore up opponents compiling a 10-3 record, scoring 35 goals and allowing just seven.

Fans came out in droves to say good bye to this very special group on Senior Night at Edward Finn Stadium on Oct. 22.

Nothing could ruin this night except for Lyman Hall of Wallingford, as the Trojans won a 1-0 decision.
