Mary (Kovacs) Mugavero, a resident of West Redding for 43 years, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Village Crest Nursing Home in New Milford following a year’s illness. Mrs. Mugavero, 88, was the widow of Vincent Mugavero, who died in 1987. She was born in Norwalk on July 31, 1920, and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. She was a retired registered nurse and had been very active in the Redding Garden Club. Mary was also a devoted parishioner at Christ Church in Redding.

Mary E. Sheridan of New Fairfield died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Danbury Hospital after a nine-month battle with an aggressive brain tumor. Mrs. Sheridan, 66, was the wife of Charles Sheridan and the mother of Genevieve Brown Starrett of Redding. She was born in Queens, N.Y., on March 2, 1943, the daughter of the late Dominick Michael and Genevieve Barone Scodari.

Ronal F. Polseno of Bethel, formerly of Redding, died in Danbury Hospital on June 16, 2009, after a lengthy illness that required five hospital visits since late January. Mr. Polseno, 54, was the son of the late Jo and Phyllis Polseno of Redding. Generally known as “Ron,” he worked at the Barden Corporation, a Danbury ball bearing manufacturer, for more than 30 years. He started his career on the shop floor operating a machine that washed bearings, and then rising through the years into the ranks of management. In his most recent position, he was in charge of scheduling the manufacturing of precision bearings and the distribution of the finished product to clients.

Louise Emerson Howe died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Meadow Ridge. Mrs. Howe was 94.
Born in New Britain, Conn. and raised in Kensington, Conn., she entered nursing school in 1932 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. After receiving her RN in 1935, she took a teaching position at Robert Brigham Hospital. In 1941, she volunteered for the Army Nurse Corps, receiving a commission as a lieutenant and joining the 6th General Hospital. In 1943, she embarked in a large convoy crossing dangerous North Atlantic waters, landing in Casablanca, French Morocco, North Africa shortly after the Allied occupation. There she joined the staff of the Army hospital at Casablanca. She married Army Capt. Robert H. Howe in Casablanca in 1944, returning to the United States in August of that year. Following the war, she settled into the life of an IBM wife and household relocation manager until the last family move to New Canaan in 1957. She divorced in 1983.

William K. Paynter, CDR, USN, (Ret.) died Monday, June 15, in Danbury after a long illness. Mr. Paynter, 90, was the husband of 64 years of Jane Windle Paynter. He was born Aug. 12, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Paynter, known to family and friends as “Bill,” graduated from Episcopal Academy, Overbrook, Pa., in 1933 and Trinity College, Hartford, with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1937. He was a member of Alpha Delta Phi and managing editor of the college weekly, the Tripod. He worked two years as a reporter on the Coatesville Record.

Joseph R. Boggs who had lived in the Ridgefield section of Georgetown for 33 years, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his home. Mr. Boggs, 65, was the husband of the late Joan E. Boggs. He was a native of New York City, son of Yetta (Kahn Boggs) Rubman and the late John T. Boggs. A lifelong artist, he had retired from his career as a graphic designer several years ago. He liked to spend much of his time reading, gardening, and traveling. He also enjoyed the company of his cat, Chloe, his family said.

Jacqueline Jane “Jackie” Bahr died June 10, 2009, after a courageous six-month battle with lymphoma. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Bahr, 78, was the wife of 56 years of Arthur S. Bahr of Redding. She was born in Oceanside, N.Y., March 28, 1931. She was a resident of Redding for 40 years and was an active part of the community in many ways while raising her family. In retirement, she and her husband enjoyed winters in Coronado, Calif. and traveling.

Grover Benjamin McClure, 90, of Redding, died at home Tuesday, June 9, 2009, surrounded by his family. Mr. McClure, 90, was the husband of Helen McClure. Known to all as Ben, he was a man who truly enjoyed life to the fullest, his family said. Mr. McClure was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Richmond, Class of 1939. He joined the U.S. Navy before the start of World War II. He began his naval career as a PT boat skipper in the Aleutian Islands, ultimately becoming lieutenant commander of a large landing ship in the South Pacific.

Pauline Mary Duffy died Monday, June 1, 2009, at Norwalk Hospital. Mrs. Duffy, 84, was the wife of the late Walter Duffy Sr. of Wilton (formerly of Norwalk and Bethel) and the mother of Gary Duffy of Redding. Born April 13, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Majernik Dragan.

Eveline Shirley Golembesky died at her home in West Redding on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
She was born in New Milford on Oct. 4, 1917, the last child of Carl Emile and Emma Victoria Carlson Johnson. “Shirley will be remembered for her lovely voice and gentle wisdom by all of those whom she loved,” a family friend said.
