Both the Ridgefield National and Ridgefield American Little League All-Star teams remained unbeaten in the pool play stage of the District 1 11-12-year-old tournament with wins Friday at Aldrich Field.

In the opener, Ridgefield National topped Norwalk, 10-4, in a Pool A game.

Ridgefield American then defeated Stamford Federal, 6-3, in a Pool B contest.

The Ridgefield National and Ridgefield American teams will continue pool play in the Little League District 1 11-12-year-old tournament Friday afternoon at Aldrich Field in Ridgefield.

The Nationals face Norwalk at 1 and the Americans meet Stamford Federal at 3:30.

Both Ridgefield teams won their opening games earlier this week.

Tara Formisano isn’t one of them.

Back in seventh grade, Formisano went to a college fair and met representatives from Stetson University. She was hooked.

After losing in the town’s Little League championship series, the Lions Club found a great way to make amends.

Win the Connecticut District 1 All Towns Tournament of Champions.

Lions, which qualified for the district event by winning the National Division in the Ridgefield Little League’s Majors Black division, went 3-0 to become the fourth Ridgefield squad to win the All Towns Tournament title.

It was one of those losses that doesn’t register the first time you see the final score. Double takes don’t help either. But no matter how many times you rubbed your eyes, cleaned your glasses or bathed your contacts in solution, the result appeared the same way.

July 4 may still be a few days away, but the Ridgefield Americans warmed up with their own fireworks display in the first game of the District 1 Little League tournament Tuesday night in Stamford.

The Americans scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 12-1 rout of Darien National. The game was called after three-and-a-half innings because of the run rule.

Recent Ridgefield High grads Jimmy O'Dea, Mike Treschitta and Mike McKnight are part of the Fairfield County team's roster for the 13th Annual Hall of Fame Football Classic.

The Fairfield County team will face a New Haven County squad in the game, which takes place July 10 at 7 at Sacred Heart University.

O'Dea was Ridgefield's leading receiver last fall, finishing with 31 catches for 569 yards and six touchdowns.

 
Heyman, Lusardi to swim at Fordham PDF Print E-mail

Recent Ridgefield High graduates Samantha Heyman and Nick Lusardi will swim collegiately at Fordham University.

The two are part of the Rams' swimming and diving class for the 2009-10 season. Fordham head coach Steve Potskian announced the incoming class on Friday.

Heyman made the 2008 All-State team in the 50-yard freestyle. She was also named to two All-FCIAC teams.
