Board modifies lot sizes for subdivision

The Town Board unanimously approved two measures related to a proposed six-lot subdivision on the south side of Route 35 next to the Connecticut border. The board approved a resolution to establish an open development area for the subdivision and a request to modify the zoning lot standards to allow for cluster housing on the site, as is now allowed under the new cluster housing regulations. The property up for subdivision is owned by Pasquale Popoli and Angelo Sicuranza and was first brought before the town in 2002. It consists of 55 acres, with about 33 acres, mostly wetlands created by the failure of an old dam many years ago, to be dedicated to permanent open space.

The tradition is alive and well at John Jay — thanks to Will Stewart.

The Indians’ senior midfielder, who will attend Williams College this fall, added his name to the roll of John Jay boys lacrosse All-Americans after a season that included a shoulder injury that forced him to miss a handful of games.

“It feels good and it’s an honor to be an All-American,” said Stewart. “I don’t have the words to express what it means to be an All-American. I’ve put a lot of work into it and this was a tough season and I am a little upset that it’s over.”

Stewart’s selection marked the seventh straight year the Indians have landed at least one player on the All-American list.
