Vavrek sets sights on Monroe’s top seat

Election season officially got underway this week with Steve Vavrek’s announcement that he plans to run for first selectman.

The Republican candidate will seek his party’s nomination at the July 23 caucus.

“I believe Monroe needs leadership that puts the needs of the community first,” Vavrek said. “I have a track record for working across party lines, engaging the best people to deliver the best results for Monroe.”

Democratic First Selectman Thomas Buzi, who is recovering at home from major surgery to remove a tumor in his lung, has not yet confirmed whether he will run for re-election.
