Bishop bids adieu to St. Joseph

“It took 27 years and two months,” Bishop Anthony Kopka joked as he looked over a capacity crowd at St. Joseph of Stratford National Catholic Church.

But it was a humble and emotional Kopka at the pulpit June 28 before a filled sanctuary. He spoke to an overflow congregation estimated at 400 people, some watching the service in an adjacent hall on closed-circuit television, during his farewell Mass Sunday afternoon.

Stratford PAL/Post 42 and Branford Post 83 hooked up in an American Legion baseball Zone II thriller at Penders Field on the third of July.

However, there were no fireworks in this game as Branford pitcher Robbie Neagle and Stratford’s Dan Julian hooked up in an old fashioned pitchers’ dual, with Neagle winning it in a 1-0 decision.
