Megan Dey Photography will open its first photography studio Oct. 1 in downtown Darien, becoming the town’s only photography studio and the place to have senior high school portraits taken.
“The East Coast doesn’t do ‘cool’ senior portraits like the rest of America,” said owner Megan Farley, a former New York City magazine photographer. “Right now local high school students must take head/shoulder senior shots for the yearbook. But wouldn’t it be great to take some fabulous photos at some different locations. Maybe places that mean something to you, like a local park or club, or, if you’re a sailor, at the beach or on a boat.”
The studio also crates family and newborn portraits and photography for events such as weddings and engagements.
Farley is a seasoned professional who wants her work to be an artistic creation that customers will treasure for years to come.
“What I am really offering people is great art to display in their home,” she said. “People love photos of themselves and their children and want to capture that time in their life, particularly with newborns.”
“My work really begins once the shoot is over and I get into my digital darkroom,” she explained. “But my editing is subtle and clients often don’t even notice, as it’s never overdone.” She works in studio or on site at the customer’s request.
Farley graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in photo illustration. She left her job as a New York City magazine photographer to pursue her dream of working for herself and creating art with a camera and a digital darkroom.
“The personal attention I give to each of my clients allows me to create portraits that are unmatched in creativity and capture personalities as they truly are,” she said. “My commitment to my clients is to provide the most personal and creative service I can possibly give, and to provide an enriching photographic experience in my studio, beginning with the initial contact and lasting through portrait delivery.”
