Palmer’s Bakery of Darien executive pastry chef Megan Palmer Dean and pastry sous chef Stephanie Tshon competed at the American Bakery Exposition in Atlantic City, N.J., on Sunday, Sept. 21. Dean took home two silver medals in the professional division, and Tshon was awarded first place and two gold medals for her cakes in the beginner/student division.
Dean was also chosen to compete in the annual Pillsbury Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition, which also took place at the Bakery Exposition.
Fifteen competitors from around the country competed over two days in front of a live audience on the trade show floor in the following categories: flowers and sprays, wedding cake, rolled fondant, custom design, sculpted cakes and creative decorating freestyle. Awards were give out for the highest three scores in each category.
Although Dean did not place, she felt it was an “incredible experience and was honored to have been chosen from hundreds of applicants to compete in this coveted competition.”
